Allah-Las is a debut that understands the appeal of understatement. Rather than trying to make 1960s garage rock sound bigger, louder or more self-conscious than it needs to be, the band lean into ease, melody and atmosphere. The result is a record that feels sun-faded and effortless, full of jangling guitars, soft harmonies and a kind of detached cool that suits the songs perfectly. It draws from surf, psych and folk-rock without sounding like a museum piece, and that balance is what makes it so inviting. Nothing here strains for effect. The album just drifts in, finds its groove and stays there.
