"Invisible Pictures," Ivey's third album for ANTI-Records, is indeed a revelation, combining raw, unflinching personal reckonings with joyfully upbeat melodies and rich, kaleidoscopic production. Though the songs are rooted in a swirl of 21st-century chaos and uncertainty, at its core the record is an undeniably feel-good collection that refuses to capitulate to the existential pain it just so artfully captures

Instead, Ivey embraces the sheer, unbridled joy of creative freedom and sonic exploration here, drawing from everything from flamenco and classical music to old indie rock and British Invasion tunes to create a passionate, transcendent album more reminiscent of John Lennon or Elliott Smith than anything coming out of Nashville these days. "I try to put a little hope in everything I do," Ivey says. "No matter how hard, no matter how dark things get, there's always a little bit of light shining through."
