Justice – Woman (2xLP, Side D Etching, Bonus CD

Woman is Justice at their smoothest and most relaxed. Instead of pushing the distorted, confrontational electro that made their early work feel so explosive, they lean here into disco, soft-focus funk and a more sunlit kind of pop. That shift can be a little surprising if you come in expecting the brute-force thrill of †, but the album has its own pleasures. It is warm, glossy and often very easy to sink into, with tracks like Safe and Sound, Randy and Fire built more around glide than impact.
What makes Woman interesting is that it is not just a softer album, it is an album about restraint. Justice sound less interested in overwhelming the listener and more interested in texture, groove and atmosphere. That means it does not hit with the same immediate shock as their debut, but it also gives the record an easy confidence that suits repeated listening. At its best, it feels like a French touch duo stepping out from under their own mythology and trying something more open, melodic and unguarded.
