"Moving Images" is a collaborative album by composers Frank Maston and Greg Foat and the first release from Magic Hollow, Daniel O'Sullivan's new label. Firmly rooted in the tradition of classic library music, the album draws on the profound and elegant side of the genre:
vintage keyboards, analog synthesizers, drum machines and melodic economy, executed with clarity, warmth and restraint.
Recorded in February 2025 at Ritmo Studios in Leysin, Switzerland, high in the Alps, Moving Images unfolds as a series of finely tuned pieces, characterized by restraint, texture and a fine sense of timbre. Swiss bassist Elie Ghersinu features prominently throughout the album, his full and flowing bass sound providing a consistent foundation.
The album is inspired by the golden age of European library music, capturing the spirit of De Wolfe and Bruton releases such as Alan Hawkshaw's "Frontiers Of Science", the push-button albums of Karl Jenkins and Mike Ratledge, Edmondo Giuliani's refined orchestral arrangements and Alessandro Alessandroni's "Romance and Drama" for Coloursound. Instead of imitating them, "Moving Images" internalizes the discipline and elegance of these recordings and transfers their musical language into a contemporary context.
