  • Ominous, beguiling ... these were the words critics used to describe the melodic genre-bending sound of the Doors' psychedelic era. A mix of blues, Asian influences, classical and pop fueled hits like the bluesy "Love Me Two Times" or "People Are Strange" on the Doors' second album, Strange Days.

"Strange Days" consists of slightly nervous recitations ("Horse Latitudes") on the one hand, but also numbers for smoky rock bars ("My Eyes Have Seen You"). Morrison's slogan "We want the world, and we want it now!" from the ambitious, overlong track "When the Music's Over" represented a touchstone for the counterculture movement of the era. Rolling Stone described "Strange Days" as having "all the power and energy of the first LP, but (it's) more subtle, more complex and much more effective."
