The Mamas & The Papas were formed by husband and wife duo Michelle and John Phillips (formerly The New Journeymen). They were joined by founding member Denny Doherty and Cass Elliot, who had both previously played with The Mugwumps. Initially, the newly formed band wanted to call themselves The Magic Cyrcle, before the final decision was made in favour of The Mamas & The Papas.The band was inspired by the Hells Angels, who refer to their female members as "Mamas". The band released five studio albums in just 4 years, spawning seventeen singles, six of which even made it to the Top Ten Billboards. The Mamas & The Papas have sold 40 million albums worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 for their contributions to the music industry.Their first single "Go Where You Wanna Go" was released in 1965 and their second single "California Dreamin" was released the same year and immediately conquered the charts. Their album "You Can Believe Your Eyes And Ears" was released in 1966 and remained their only number one album on the Billboard charts. "Monday, Monday", the third and final single from their debut album, finally helped the band achieve their worldwide breakthrough and remains the band's only No. 1 single to this day.In 1966, The Mamas & The Papas recorded their second, self-titled studio album. Upon release, the album landed at number four in the U.S. - in Germany it reached number 14. The first single from this album was "I Saw Her Again" which was followed by "Words Of Love" and "Dancing in the Street" as the second and third singles. "Deliver" was released in the fall of 1966 and represented the singles "Look Through My Window", "Dedicated To The One I Love" and "Creeque Alley". With "Glad To Be Happy" came another single which was not represented on any album.Mama Cass Elliot later launched a successful solo career, associated with hits like "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" and "It's Getting Better." Collected includes all the hits and milestones of The Mamas & The Papas, as well as Mama Cass Elliot, and with 64 tracks, offers a great overview of the most important and beautiful works.
