  • Canadian musicians' collective with freshly ripened pop fruit

In 1997, a group of very talented musicians came together in Vancouver to form a band. The focal point was songwriter A. C. Newman, who had a precise idea of what the sound should be: Fresh! The band project was called "The New Pornographers" and the debut album "Mass Romantic" was recorded in 2000. this was followed in 2003 by "Electric Version", which received great reviews all over the world and also brought the band their commercial breakthrough in the States.

Compared to its predecessors, the new album seems a little rougher. Of course, there are still the typical sing-a-longs and anthemic choruses, but everything seems a little more subdued, more personal and almost reflective. "Twin Cinema" shows the Canadian collective maturing, which is mainly due to Newman's songwriting, which was heavily influenced by his current favorite band Fiery Furnaces. But of course Mr. Newman is also a "victim" of his far too large record collection, which is why he doesn't deny influences from Tubeway Army, The Wings, The Stranglers and even Genesis.
